“Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.” ` Claude Monet
I’ve neglected still life recently as I don’t like faffing much. I get frustrated and cross if I can’t manipulate the objects, my camera or myself ! I have become a more outdoors only person either locally or on day trips with Mark my husband.
This week the weather has been awful, heavy rain and even thunder and lightning. The garden is wet, sodden and if plants could look miserable they would look totally fed up.
So I rescued a few roses and set about trying to set up some still life.
I decided to try to go for simple and to use as few props as possible. my processing was heavy as I have made a new Lightroom preset which is heavy on saturation and moodiness.
I am happy with the finished set of images, but fingers crossed that the weather improves soon…..
“Some people grumble that roses have thorns; I am grateful that thorns have roses.” ~ Alphonse Karr
Oh wow Viv!! These are beyond amazing! I’m in.love with the roses in the glass vase – the clarity of the glass and water, and the dark mood of the background…and your collages are always stunning. A beautiful simple gathering of roses to make stills for us to enjoy today! We’ve had rain yesterday – nearly 2″ in the afternoon. And wind and thunder. Sunshine is here now for several days. I’m embracing more outdoor photography, and looking forward to discovering more. I prefer “slow living”!

I totally get the outdoor/still life battle. I can do still life when I have a reason for it in a story, or when I am taking a class, or it’s winter. But on an everyday basis, I would much rather be outside, or wandering somewhere fun and discovering things.
