Friday Thoughts

Blog, Writing

“It was that sort of sleep in which you wake every hour and think to yourself that you have not been sleeping at all; you can remember dreams that are like reflections, daytime thinking slightly warped.”
― Kim Stanley RobinsonIcehenge

What I’m listening to – Bombay Bicycle Club – Flaws listen HERE

Early morning again. Insomnia has it’s advantages. Writing becomes less of a task and more of a necessity. As this year begins I need more balance in my life. Balance in exercise, Balance in my diet, Balance in my relationships with others and Balance in my priorities.

No more sitting on the fence, thinking about the ‘maybe’s’ and ‘what if’s ‘- this is now. As I sit here in the silence, no cars, no voices, just the creaks of the floorboards as if the house is breathing with me, in, out, in, out. The fridge comes to life groaning as if it’s complaining – “Too much food in here, clear it out, use it”.

To be continued…..

Do you like my little scissors aren’t they sweet ? And my pebble sits on my chest of drawers with other treasures.

I’m linking today with Kim’s Friday Finds also with the Write Tribe Pro Blogger Challenge endeavouring to write two blog posts a week.

  1. I love early morning for writing. I actually lie awake for the last half hour before I get up thinking about what I am going to write today. I am so excited to see you are doing the Write Tribe Challenge as well. I need that accountability to post twice a week. Too easy to get caught up in life and let the blog go by the wayside, yet writing and sharing are my life lines to the world. Keep writing you have some good stuff brewing there.

  2. Early morning is the best as far as this women is concerned, gosh Viv I so love your image. The colors are just exquisite, so so good Viv and yes I do love your scissors. Now I want to look for all kinds of scissors, like I need another prop!

  3. I’m with you on the insomnia front, Viv. I am a real night owl. Sometimes it’s just so hard to switch the conscious mind off and just let it slumber. I wish you well with your resolutions. Balance is something that we all need to strive for. And the ability to see the important stuff amidst all the frippery is a rare and wonderful skill that I’d really love to master one of these days. Love your photo. Those scissors are so pretty. William Morris would have delighted in them: pretty and functional, the ultimate design goals. Wishing you every happiness and success for 2015, Bonny x

  4. those are the best scissors ever! I like your writing today. I was tempted to join in… perhaps I might. I just realized last night I have already over committed this year. I thought I had signed up for 2 all year classes when I realized I had forgotten about one, actually two. So that totals 4 and doesn’t even count Be Still! ahhhhhh…. Maybe my word should have been simplify but now I’m writing too much. Have a great week this first week of the year.

  5. Love this gorgeous image and all the things within it. I have always loved early morning when it seems no one is awake except me and I can delight in the world without interruptions!

  6. I need more balance in my life too, Viv, I was thinking to choose ‘balance’ as my one word for the year …
    Lovely treasures, beautifully displayed !
    Wishing you a wonderful 2015 !

  7. Hi Viv … I know that insomnia too well. But I do try also to make the best of it. I find myself lying awake just thinking … about my day, about my photographs, about my blog posts. Also if I have a great book, I find that it is such a delicious time to read … no interruptions …nice! Yes, I do love your scissors, did you find them while out antique hunting? love! Wishing you another creative year!

  8. Viv, I totally understand those early morning hours of quiet and wondering where my mind will land. It seems my mind is clearest during this time and ideas flow from a place that I can’t approach during the day. I really like your composition of items and those scissors are well I’ll put it this way..I’d love to have a pair….
It seems lots of us have “balance” on our minds for the coming year. It will be interesting to see how we do…Happy New Year….

  9. Oh, what treasures you have! But I really love that little stone. I’m so sorry you have insomnia but I like that you made good use of the time. As I write this, I imagine you will be winding down your day so I’ll wish you sweet dreams and a good night’s rest. Happy New Year, too!

  10. oh yes, I can so relate to everything you have written here and I am in search of balance myself. In fact, I’ve been thinking about it so much, I believe it is the cause of my insomnia! Love your dreamy image with all it’s wonderful detail…and so striking on that dark background.
